Meet The Owners

Brandon and Gabriela are the proud owners of Raíces Farms, a small and hopefully sustainable farm in southeastern Pennsylvania.

We have been growing fresh produce in the area for a couple of years and decided to expand our operations with the purchase of the Myers farm in 2015. We hope to have a strong offering of the following items this year:

  • Strawberries (June) and Raspberries (July)
  • Mixed Greens (May through June) and Broccoli (June)
  • Green and Burgundy Snap Beans (July)
  • Heirloom Tomatoes (August through September)
  • Basil and Peppers (August through September)
  • Zucchini (July and August) and Butternut Squash (September)
  • Cantaloupe and Watermelon (September)
  • Buckwheat (August)
  • Hops (August)

We farm using traditional, manual methods where feasible. Our approach to farming exceeds the recommendations of the USDA NOP Final Rule- while we are not certified organic yet, we hope to obtain organic certification in 2018.

History of the Myers Farm

Article Image

The Myers Farm was first built around 1780 and remained in the Myers family until 2015. We are proud to consider ourselves stewards of this beautiful historic property. We hope to be able to maintain its beauty and protect its history.

Wildlife

In order to bring high-quality products to market, we need to tame parts of mother nature on the property. However, we try to leave as much 'nature' untouched as is feasible for the operation of the farm.

Berries

We are proud of our berry production, which presently includes strawberries and black raspberries. Our berries prefer their location on our second farm plot, perched on a nearby hillside with excellent southern exposure.

Hops

With demand growing for craft beers, we decided to experiment with hops. We presently have six varieties in production:

  • Cascade, alpha: 4-6%
  • Centennial, 8-11%
  • Fuggle, alpha: 4-5.5%
  • Hallertauer, alpha: 3-5%
  • Magnum, alpha: 12-17%
  • Northern Brewer, alpha: 7-9%
